Fizzy Robot Photography is the kind of outfit we like to support here at Beauty & Ruin Magazine – they’re a local startup with vision and passion for all things fashion. As we are a Brighton based fashion & lifestyle magazine it’s important to us to support the homegrown fashion industry in and around Brighton and Sussex – and where better to start than with Fizzy Robot Photography.
Let’s break this down for you. The shoot you are about to see took place in Eastbourne, our neighbouring town, at the Eastbourne Cocktail Club (their newest venue). The makeup was the hard work of Brightonian talents Queen G Make Up Artists and the stylist was Naomi from Wedding Tattle.
The Lingerie was handmade and supplied by Flock, Brighton Lace and the Jewellery was Palomita, also from Brighton.
The shoot was shot inside and out of the Eastbourne Cocktail Club and also the alleyway directly outside which created a real urban kick which wouldn’t normally go with lingerie but it has really worked.
Anyway, enough from me and over to Fizzy Robot who have put together a breakdown of their shoot in far more detail than I am capable of:
“Local suppliers were involved with the shoot as it is important to work with the wonderful creatives we have around Brighton and the South. The shoot’s focus was on using stunning lace and fur as well as other clothes which complimented the urban feel of the shoot. The rather talented women-only team from Brighton Lace design bespoke lingerie in Brighton making each piece by hand.
We chose three designs which involved using French Knickers as well as Bralette bras. This meant the sets looked classic. Brighton Lace is stocked in Flock, Brighton which is the most wonderful bohemian shop nestled in North Laine. Flock stock a handful of local labels and has been open only a short while. In this time, they have proved to be very popular as you are likely to find the most exquisite treasures. They provided the fur bolero as well as the black lace top and playsuit which was my absolute favourite on the shoot as it looked amazing with a fur jacket and heels. Also stocked in Flock is Palomita Jewellery. We needed someone who designs bright, bold pieces which again would tie in with the colours and look of the shoot.
The designs from Palomita are Amazonian inspired- her pieces use unusual natural elements such as beetle shells, parrot feathers, porcupine quills, semi-precious stones and textiles. The colours of the jewellery we chose from Palomita stood out on the models against the chosen clothing items.
Each shot was carefully put together to ensure all the items worked cohesively together as well as with their surroundings as we were fortunate enough to use a range of backdrops.
As the MUA and hairstylist I wanted big messy hair and bold makeup. Colourful yet dramatic with flawless skin! I took inspiration from the fashion adverts of Prada, Balmain and Tom Ford to create a powerful look that would contrast with the soft lace lingerie and fur coats.
My inspiration for this shoot was to create something modern, funky and fashionable with an urban twist! I selected an all-female team and each person has their own creative and unique talent!
From a photographers point of view we wanted to mix up the rough with the smooth so to speak using the quirky surroundings of the back streets, alleyways and The ECC and combining it with the beautiful. It’s not every day you are fortunate enough to stumble upon a unique and quirky location such as the ECC and stir in some beautiful lace, bespoke jewellery and elegant furs topped off with stunning models and cocktails and you have an eclectic mix of loveliness!
Thee Eastbourne Cocktail Club is truly a little gem, filled with an assortment of retro goodies creating a really good vibe. This is defiantly a place to visit for an evening of amazing cocktails and tunes!
Justin who is just about to celebrate his 1st year anniversary at the ECC has created a club that is designed with you in mind. He says “We wanted to bring the flavour of London to Eastbourne and we are so proud and overwhelmed with how we have been received here”
Eastbourne is very much moving with the times at a rapid speed and this place is certainly one to visit!”
